Context Inbox is an idea for an inbox organized by context instead of by message: one place for the house closing, the client launch or the school year, with a short note on where each one stands and what is waiting on you.

Thirty emails from twenty-some people. Five things you care about.

The same thirty emails, as five contexts.

How it would work

We're building toward three parts. None of them exist yet.

  1. Mail arrives as usual

You would keep your address, your provider and your apps. Nothing would change about how email reaches you.

  2. It gets grouped into contexts

We're building the part that notices a closing, a project or a trip forming across many senders and gathers those messages together. You could move anything, or start a context by hand.

  3. Each context keeps a summary

A few lines on where things stand, the dates that matter, the files, and a list of what is still open. It would update as new mail lands.

What it is not

Not a new address

You would keep the inbox you have, with the same address and provider. Context Inbox would sit alongside it and read the same mail in a different order.

Not a promise

Everything on this page is written in future or conditional tense on purpose. There is no feature list, no pricing and no date. If we decide not to build it, we'll say so.

Questions

Does it exist yet?
No. We're deciding whether to build it, and the waitlist is how we gauge interest.
Will it read my email?
It would have to, in order to group anything, which is why privacy is the first design question. Nothing is connected today and no mail is read.
When?
There is no date. If you join the list, you'll hear when there is something to show.
